Intermediate Level Syllabus
This course emphasizes idioms, idiomatic expressions, verb phrases, proverbs, and sayings used in everyday language, with their meaning, as well as development of listening comprehension skills.
This course endeavors to prepare students to be successful in their academic studies by rising them from high beginner to high intermediate level in the following English language abilities.

Outcomes:
After completion of this course, the student will be able to perfom the following language functions at a high intermediate level:
Listening Comprehension
Anticipate the focus a speaker's discussion will take. Identify speaker's main idea and supportive details. Guess meaning from context. Summarize discussions and texts. Make inferences. Take notes on a lecture.
Proficiency
Express ideas and feelings on a given topic. Compare opinions and talk about differences.
Vocabulary
Understand the usage of new vocabulary pertaining to given topics. Understand the usage of idioms, idiomatic expressions and verb phrases presented in discussions. Pronunciation
Understand the usage of appropriate word and sentence stress. Understand the usage of sentence and question intonation. Understand the usage of correct pronunciation of plural(s) forms. Understand the usage of contractions in formal writing or speech. Understand the usage of contrastive stress for new or contradictory information.
Requirements:
The student is required to keep a notebook with all written assignments for monthly revision. The student is required to do an Electronic Portfolio, on a given topic using vocabulary, idioms, idiomatic expressions and verb phrases applied in every day language. The student is required to present idioms, idiomatic expressions and verb phrases in discussions. Language Lab is required one day a week.
Responsibilities:
The student's responsibility is to keep all of his or her assignments in sequence so if he or she is absent he must ask the teacher for the missing assignments. The student's responsibility to be prepared for oral, or "pop" quizzes without any notification from the teacher.
