Beginning Writing Syllabus
This is a course based on increasing vocabulary, developing pronunciation skills, and simple spelling.
Students under my tutelage receive individualized instruction.

Dear parents:
Beginning Writing, endeavors to prepare students to become successful in their academic studies by achieving the following objectives:
Introducing students to basic English rules of capitalization, punctuation, and paragraph format. Introducing students to various general sentence forms, from simple sentences to the basics of coordination and subordination. Building basic knowledge of paragragraph organization with emphasis on developing topic sentences, support, concluding sentences and the use of basic transitions.
Student Outcomes:
At the end of ESOL Beginning Writing the student should be able to:
1. Use capital letters at the beginning of sentences, correct end and inner punctuation.
2. Spell vocabulary correctly to their level.
3. Master correct verb forms for simple present, present progressive tenses and should acquire familiarity with simple past.
4. Write simple sentences and basic compound sentences with: and, but and so.
5.Write using: when,while, before, after,and because.
6. Create ideas through pre-writing.
7. Organize a simple paragraph of eight to ten sentences with a topic sentence, supporting details as well as a concluding sentence.
Grading criteria:
Compositions in the classroom 40% Journal 30% Homework, Quizzes, Dictations 20% Final Exam 10% Total: 100%
