(1) Literature- The discussion of universal themes from textbook selections and the novels, Animal Farm, A Separate Peace and one other which will be student-selected from a list of five possibilities. We will also read and discuss pieces of non-fiction from a number of sources.
(2) Writing each week- Focus will be placed not only on four traditional approaches (rewriting, research, learning to use both MLA and APA, and grammar exercises), but also on helping students to come to a personal understanding of what constitutes effective writing and how they can best improve. Writings will cover a number of topics and types, but most often they will be persuasive in nature. Students will be expected to include a strong counter-argument in each of their persuasive essays.
(3)Weekly Vocabulary development for the purpose of using vocabulary in compositions.
Grading will consist of 25% for each of the four following elements: (1) composition, (2)reading, (3) conventions/vocabulary, (4) listening/viewing
STRONG RECOMMENDATION: Because I only have one class set of vocabulary booklets, access is highly restricted. In order for you to have the text at your own convenience for study and review, I recommend you buy a personal copy of the Sadlier-Oxford Level E book. You can find it online at Sadlier-Oxford.
Be sure to look at the bottom of the column on the left for general information that applies to all my students. |
