| 10th Grade CP Literature
| | 10th Grade CP Syllabus | | This year you are going to learn a lot about literature. We are going to read a wide variety of literature, from novels, to plays, to short stories, to poetry, and pretty much anything in between. With all this reading, you will have the chance to have experiences you've never had through the eyes of our characters. A large portion of 10th grade literature is focused on taking you from a dependent thinking (ie you depend on other people, such as teachers, to guide your thoughts) to an independent thinker (you arrive at conclusions about symbolism, characterization, etc. all on your own). I will help you to make that leap through all our class discussions, the writing you will be doing, and the projects that will show you different perspectives about interpretations. A major part of this journey is the responsibility you will have to read independently outside of class. Many of the novels assigned this year will require you to read at home, and it is necessary that you do this reading. I am very excited about the possibilities this year brings and truly look forward to the opportunity of watching each and every one of you change into an independent thinker. |

Rules to Live by:
1. Write only in blue or black ink. If you choose to write in any other color or in pencil, you will receive a 0 on that assignment. 2. Only use pencil if specifically directed to do so by Ms. Funsch. 3. Finish your food and drink before entering the classroom—eating and/or drinking are not permitted in class. 4. Raise your hand before venturing a comment or question into the classroom discussion. 5. Respect the other students in the classroom as you are all here to learn about literature. 6. Go to the bathroom during your break not during class time. 7. Expect a tardy if you walk in after the bell rings.
This year the 10th grade is focusing on Reading Comprehension. We will be doing a lot of short readings in class and then utilizing Researched based reading strategies to improve the students' reading comprehension. Within this focus, we are also trying to instill a love of reading in the students, recognizing that reading can span from a 1,000 page novel to an article from Us Magazine. We are also doing various hands on projects in class to make the literature come alive and relate to the students so that they can own their reading. All-in-all, it should be a very productive year!!
