Test Taking Tips

The best way to prepare for any type of test is to study every subject every day. Having a good grasp of the information covered in class will help you feel more comfortable on test day. Information covered in a class builds upon the information covered in previous days. Homework is one method used to help you remember the important concepts covered in class. Listed below are some general test taking tips that may be helpful when preparing to take a test.

1. Be rested. It is difficult to concentrate when you are tired.
2. Arrive on time. Arriving late adds stress to your testing session.
3. Except some test anxiety. It is normal to feel this way.
4. Keep a positive attitude. Thinking positive helps.
5. Give all of your attention to one question at a time. Focus.
6. Take time to relax if you find yourself feelings nervous. Close your eyes, breath deeply, and try to return to positive thinking.
7. Read the test instructions carefully.
8. Answer the easy questions first.
9. Read the test questions carefully. Look for words that may confuse you.
10. Take time to check your work if you finish early.
11. Have your materials ready and organized (paper, pens, pencils, calculator, etc.).
12. Read the stem plus the answer for multiple-choice questions to determine if it sounds correct.
