Book Fairs -- Oct. & Mar. - Fall book fair in October and winter book fair in March. - Encourages reading and consumer skills. - Parent volunteers are needed. - Proceeds are used for library supplies, educational materials, and Accelerated Reader prizes. - Bonus gift books are collected for prizes, reading incentives, and to add to the library collection.

Young Georgia Authors Writing Contest - Winner in each classroom receives certificate and book. - Grade level winners advance to system competition.

Children’s Book Week and American Education Week -- Nov. - Community guests are invited to read stories to classes. - Guests usually include local mayors, pastors, and law enforcement officers, CCBOE member, local historian, Lynx hockey players, dairy farmer, and media personalities. |

Starlab -- Nov. - Study the globe, stars, constellations, and mythology with an inflatable planetarium. |

Historical Presentations in Period Dress -- Nov. & Feb. - Civil War -- Media specialist and her husband, Tom Holley, will discuss life during the 1860s with emphasis on Columbia County. Mr. Holley has written three books concerning local Confederate regiments that were mustered from this area: Company K - the Ramsey Volunteers, Company F - the Thomson Guards, and Company K - the Hamilton Rangers.
- Georgia Day -- February 12 -- Media specialist will describe colonial life in Georgia during the late 1700s. |

Read Across America -- Mar. - Reading enjoyment is promoted by celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss. - Students in lower grades will be paired with older readers as "Reading Buddies."

Georgia Children’s Picture Storybook Award -- Aug. - Apr. - Goal is to promote a "community of readers" so students from all grade levels can discuss the same books and share their enthusiasm for reading. - Most of the twenty nominated titles are read during Storytime or by classroom teachers so students may then vote for their favorite choice. - Voting machines and ballots are provided by Columbia County Board of Elections. - School votes are sent to the state contest, sponsored by the University of Georgia College of Education.

School Library Media Month and National Library Week -- Apr. - Media Center resources and services are highlighted with fun activities such as a magic show and library bingo games.
