1. digit - a number or a symbol that represents a number
2. cardinal number - a number that tells how many; example: 5 pencils
3. ordinal number - a number that tells order or position; example: 1st place
or 10th in line
4. nominal number - a number that names things; example: a phone number
5. sum - answer to an addition problem
6. difference - answer to a subtraction problem
7. factor - the numbers multiplied together to get an answer; example:
In the problem 8 x 7 = 56, 8 and 7 are the factors
8. prime number - a number that only has factors of 1 and itself; example: 2
is a prime number because its only factors are 1 and 2
9. composite number - a number that has more than 2 factors; example: 8 is
a composite number because its factors are 1, 8, 2, 4 so it has more than
2.
10. equation - a number sentence with an equals sign in it; example:
10 + 4 = 14 or 351 x 1 + 10 = 361
11. product - the answer to a division problem
12. perimeter - the distance AROUND an object; ADD ALL THE SIDES
13. equivalent - numbers that are equal; 0.7 is equivalent to 0.700
14. mode - the number that occurs MOST often in a set of data
15. property of one - any number multiplied by 1 equals that number; 1 x 5 = 5
