Units We Will Study This Year

Units We Are Currently Studying
Kindergarten through 2nd grade - Steady Beat - In this unit we identify the steady beat as being the underlying beat in all music. We practice recognizing the beat through listening, movement, and playing instruments.

3rd,4th, and 5th- "How to Read and Write Music" - This unit is preparation for third graders to play soprano recorder for the first time and a review for Fourth grade as they continue to learn new fingerings and more difficult notation.

Units For the Future
Kindergarten - Tone Color - In this unit we will explore making different sounds with our voices in songs and stories. We will meet the instrument families and practice identifing their unique tone qualities. We will also experiment with listening to environmental sounds and creating them.

1st grade - Tone color - In this unit we will work on matching pitch accurately when we sing. As well as identifing the tone color of the various types of voices and instruments.

2nd grade - Tone color - In this unit we focus on everyday sounds as compared to instrumental sounds and how to use them in an expressive way. We experiment with creating accompaniments for dances, songs, and stories. We also do an in depth study of the string instruments.
