Course Outline for 7th Grade Language Arts
Teacher: Mr. Pascarella

Purpose/Goal

This class will focus on the development and maintenance of the basic reading, literature, grammar, and writing skills that reflect the Georgia’s Performance Standards . Also, the course will provide techniques and strategies that will enhance your child’s test taking skills.

Notebook

Each day your child will do activities related to specific standards. These activities should be placed in the appropriate sections of their notebook. Also, please check your child’s notebook regularly. Your effort will be greatly rewarded.

AR Test-taking Tips
Use these tips to determine whether or not you are ready to take an AR test. If you cannot remember these details, your AR test will be a “wash”.
1. Identify the main character(s) Answer the question in the space provided. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

2. Think of several important events (1 per chapter) that involved the main characters such as: how the characters behaved, felt, or thought during these events Keep it short! List these events in order on the back.

3. Especially, remember events that answer these questions: why did or how did these events happen. Don’t write the answers to these questions- just think about the answers.

Instructions: You need (5) typed journal topic paragraphs. Revise and edit your paragraphs before typing your final draft! You may use the proofreader’s guide in Writer’s Inc. to correct any mechanic’s errors. Each entry is worth (20) points.

Each paragraph must have a title and at least four typed sentences. (5points) Font 12

Highlight the topic sentence but not the (3) supporting detail sentences. (5points)

Highlight at least one transition word between sentences. In other words, the transition word must begin the sentence. (Flow)

Highlight at least one compound or complex sentence in each paragraph. (5points)

MUGS- Eleven points will be deducted from your overall score if you have more than (10) grammar and mechanics’ errors or if you fail to indent.
