CLASSWORK

TEXTBOOK
You are required to bring your textbook to class everyday. You will not be allowed to go to your locker to get your textbook once class starts (see Pass Policy). You are not allowed to share a textbook. If you fail to bring your textbook to class, you will be given a writing assignment to do while the rest of the class does the correct assignment. You will only be given half-credit for the writing assignment. I promise you – you’d rather bring your textbook.

DOING ASSIGNMENTS OUTSIDE OF CLASS
• Although “homework” is not listed on your syllabus, you have homework every night – reading. Reading the section before we go over it in class will help you understand it better.
• Some assignments will not be finished in class. These are due by the beginning of the next class.
• Some assignments will be due on a later date. You may work on these inside or outside of class as long as you have them turned in on time.

CLASSWORK
There are three categories of classwork. They each count 10% of your 9-weeks grade. Below is a description of each category.

CLASSWORK CATEGORY I:
- Vocabulary – You will be given ten words from the chapter to define. I will give you a quiz over these words. On the top-left of the paper write:
Your name
Chapter # - Vocabulary
Classwork Category I
Number your vocabulary words. Failure to label or number this assignment will result in up to a twenty-point deduction.

CLASSWORK CATEGORY II:
- Section Assessments – These are located at the end of each section. On the top-left of the paper write:
Your name
Chapter #, Section # - Assessment
Classwork Category II
Only answer the questions under “Key Terms and Main Ideas.” You do not have to write the questions but you must answer in complete sentences. Please don’t be the GENIUS that continually ask me, “Do we have to write the questions” and “Which questions do we do?” Failure to label this assignment will result in up to a twenty-point deduction. Incomplete sentences will not count.
- Outline – See handout and use the correct format.

CLASSWORK CATEGORY III:
- Guided Reading – These are in your workbook. If you forget your workbook, write the answers on a separate sheet of paper. Transfer the answers later. If you use a separate sheet of paper, and I take up this assignment, you will have 50 points deducted.
- Worksheets – On the top-left of the paper write:
Your name
Title of worksheet
Classwork Category III
Follow directions on each worksheet. Failure to label this assignment will result in up to a twenty-point deduction.
- 30 Facts – On the day of the chapter test, you are responsible for turning in a list of 30 numbered facts from the chapter. They can come from the text book, review game, or another assignment. If you use another assignment to get your facts, they must be rewritten. For example, you cannot staple your 10 vocabulary words to 20 facts and expect to get full credit. Facts must be complete sentences or, in question form, if you use questions from the review game. Incomplete sentences will not count. On the top-left of the paper write:
Your name
Chapter # - 30 Facts
Classwork Category III
Failure to label and number will result in up to a 20-point deduction.

FINAL NOTES:
• These are not the only assignments you will have during the semester. Other assignments will be assigned to categories as I see fit.
• All assignments must be written on separate sheets of paper.
• All assignments MUST be handwritten.
• All assignments must be labeled correctly and done in the correct format or you will lose points.
• Any worked not labeled will not be given credit during the notebook check. I promise you, this will mean a lot more to you at the end of the 9-weeks!
• Classwork must be your own. If you copy another student’s work, or let another student copy your work, you will be given a zero for cheating. This applies even before the bell rings.
• When I take up an assignment, I expect it to be turned in when I call for it. Not when YOU get ready. You will lose points for stalling.
• Time – You will be given adequate time to complete an assignment. Talking, daydreaming, going to the restroom, etc are not excuses for not completing an assignment.
• Late assignments – I do not take classwork late (unless you are absent). If you are present, and do not turn in an assignment, you will have this sweet message on Iparent: “Student refused to do work in class, and therefore, cannot make up assignment. Grade will remain a zero.”
• If you are absent…I post all assignments we did during class and let you know which one(s) I took up. Please consult the board (the one that reads “If you were absent please read”) before you ask me “What did you take up while I was out?” Missed assignments are due by the next school day. If you do not turn them in by then, you will be given a zero.
