HOW 2 ORGANIZE YER NOTEBOOK

The Facts:
• Your notebook counts 10% of your 9-weeks grade
• Your notebook MUST be a 3-ring binder (no exceptions)
• You can share your notebook with another class as long as I know where my part begins and ends
• You must have a labeled divider for each required section of your notebook. A piece of paper is not a divider.
• I will check notebooks at the end of each 9-weeks
• “HANDOUTS” are the only papers I require you to keep when we begin a new 9-weeks
• Keep this sheet as a guide on how to organize your notebook. I will not tell you how to organize it again>:(

ORGANIZATION
Keeping your notebook organized is easy if you do it from the start. Do not wait until the end of the 9-weeks (ie – the day before I take it up) to buy it or organize it.

SECTIONS
HANDOUTS: The first section of your notebook is HANDOUTS. You should have anything not related to a chapter in this section. Your Rules, Classwork, How to Outline Your Chapter, Enduring Understandings/Essential Questions and this sheet goes in HANDOUTS. You should have a divider labeled “HANDOUTS” at the beginning of this section.

CHAPTERS: Have a separate section for each chapter. They should be in the order of how we do them in class. Each chapter should have a divider labeled according to the chapter number. For example, “CHAPTER 1.”

Organize each chapter the following way:
• Classwork in order of how I assign it(!!!LABEL EVERYTHING!!!)
• Quizzes
• 30 Facts
• Major Test (this should be the last thing in a chapter section)

NOTES
I do not require you to take notes (although I strongly suggest it!). Therefore, there is no NOTES section required. You can put them anywhere in your notebook.

GRADING
Again, your notebook counts 10% of your 9-weeks grade; and again, I will take it up at the end of each 9-weeks. I will grade it based on content. I will look for twenty items that are required to be in your notebook. For each item you do not have, five points will be deducted from your overall grade. For example, if you do not have three items, your grade will be an 85.

You will also be graded on neatness and organization. You will lose points if your notebook is messy. Items out of order or not in the right section will not be counted. For example, if Chapter 2 test is in Chapter 8’s section, it does not count.

All unlabeled items will not be counted. All incomplete work will not be counted. All work must be your own. Any copied work will not be counted.

Items not in the 3-rings of the binder will not be counted. For example, if you have an item I am looking for and it is in the cover pocket, it does not count. If you have everything I am looking for and hand it in paper-clipped together or in a folder, you will get a zero.

TAKING NOTEBOOKS UP
Notebooks are due at the BEGINNING of class on the day I take them up. Not five minutes after the bell rings. You will turn them in upon entering class. Do not come to class and start organizing your notebook. Do not ask me for my hole-punch, etc. If it is not turned in when you walk in the door, it will be considered late

LATE NOTEBOOKS/ ABSENT
Late notebooks lose 50 points per day. If you are absent the day I take up notebooks, yours is due the day you get back.
