| Reading Logs |
By the end of the year, students are supposed to have read 1,000,000 words. To achieve this goal, students are required to read at least thirty minutes four nights out of the week night or 120 minutes a week. Reading every night not only aids students in the knowledge that is gained from the material, but it increases a studentˇ¦s vocabulary and reading ability. The old saying, "Practice makes perfect" is very true with reading. Students can read any book that is on or close to his or her reading level, the newspaper (not the comics), and informational magazines (National Geographic, Time, Etc.). Looking at pictures does not count as reading. To prove that a student has been reading and aid in the summarizing and comprehension of what is being read; students will be recording information about what was read on a reading log. The reading log form is posted on my website, and students will receive the forms in class. Students need to record all of the required information on the sheet. A parent will have to sign the bottom of each reading log. Each form represents one week's worth of reading. Students will have to use more than one form to complete the assignment. Students may write on the forms or download the form and type each summary in the cells of the table. The reading logs will be due on the following dates:
Quarter One - Wednesday, October 3, 2007 Quarter Two - Wednesday, December 12, 2007 Quarter Three - Wednesday, February 27, 2008 Quarter Four - Wednesday, May 7, 2008
