Fifth Grade Homework Policy

The purpose of homework is to have students practice what they have learned in school. Fifth grade students will have homework almost every night. Students will be responsible for maintaining an agenda.  The agenda must travel with the student from class to class. The agenda serves many purposes:

  1. Homework assignments
  2. Work Ethic Grade
  3. Weekly parent communication

When homework is collected or checked for effort and a student does not have the assignment in class, the box for the assignment will be highlighted by the teacher.  When the teacher receives the assignment, the teacher who assigned the homework will initial the box. Students completing all assignments and those having all of their highlights completed will be awarded weekly with a period of extended recess. Students with uninitialed highlights will be given the opportunity to work on their highlights with a teacher’s assistance during recess.

Students are given five days to complete a highlight and will incur a 10 point deduction of the final grade.  If the missing assignment is not completed within the five-day grace period, students will receive a zero for the assignment.

Each teacher will assign a work ethic grade for their subject area that will count as a test grade at the end of the nine weeks by counting the number of highlights in their subject area. Each highlight will count five points each and will be deducted from the student’s work ethic grade of 100%.

Please refer to the Euchee Creek Student Handbook for more guidelines on homework.
