Dynamic Drawing
|
This course is designed to give students the graphic skills they need to accurately depict the world around them. They will learn linear perspective drawing--creating detailed cityscapes and interior views with one, two, and three-point perspective utilizing principles such as vanishing points, horizon line, orthogonal lines, vertical lines, and horizontal lines, as well as the distance-size relationship. They will also learn how to draw the human figure in proportion, both in motion and at rest, and by studying nature and graphic illustrations, they will render accurate drawings of their environment, utilizing the principles of surface and size, overlapping and its relationship to foreground and background, surface lines and their effect on foreshortening, as well as density and shading. My students should be practicing their new skills and techniques throughout the week.
Why We're Drawing...
Drawing is one of the oldest forms of human communication. It is the basis for all writing systems in the world. In recent times, drawing as a skill, a form of communication, and a method of expression has been neglected, yet the ability to accurately draw is necessary for people in many professions, including architects, graphic designers, animators, engineers, illustrators, and advertisers. Of course, we can't exclude students, who often need it to complete school projects, or to illustrate scenes on the edges of their notes!
