Economics Fall Semester 2008
Instructor: Mr. Young Room: 279 (Floating) E-Mail: gregory.young@ccboe.net
Welcome to Mr. Young’s Economics course for Fall 2008. This is a course designed to give you a basic look into the science of Economics and the effects it has on your life. In this course we will take a broad look at many issues and events that make up modern Economics in our country as well as in other countries around the world. We will also search to find out the history behind our economic system and how it has become what it is today.
Rules of the Class: 1) Come to class prepared. This means bring notebooks, paper, pencils and your textbook. 2) No talking during class time unless otherwise given permission by the teacher. 3) Treat every student with respect when they give their opinions in class. Economics is made up of different people’s opinions based upon factual evidence that have been found about that subject. Opinions are very important in this class and are part of your grade.
Grades: The thing you were all waiting for. Remember that your grade in this class is not just comprised of paperwork and tests. Part of your grade is made up of you being part of the class and participating in discussions. You will only get out of the class what you put into it, So SPEAK UP!!. Tests=50% Daily work/quizzes/homework=25% EOCT=15% Participation=10%
A large portion of your grade will come from test we will have for each Unit. I will always announce test dates a week before the actual test will take place. Two days before the test, I will give you a written review for the test. The day before the test I will go over the review for the test and answer any questions you might have about the content. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find someone in the class and get the answers to the review from them. Because I will have announced the test date a week before it takes place, being absent for the review session the day before, will not excuse you from the test. If you are sick and are incapacitated from studying, let me know BEFORE the test takes place and we will try and work something out. Test will be comprised of multiple choice, short answer, and an essay question.
Along with test, you will be given class work, homework, and quizzes. It is VERY important that you keep up with these daily assignments because they will help prepare you for the tests. If you are absent, I will keep a box with all the worksheets from the previous days assignments. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ASK FOR WORK YOU MAY HAVE MISSED WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT.
Another part of your grade for this class will be the End of Course Test. This grade will make up 15% of your total grade in the class. Dates for the End of Course Test will be given out in class.
*During the First quarter, there will be no EOCT, instead there will be a group project in place of that grade.
The last part of your grade is participation. I want for everyone in the class to contribute to the class in order to make the class as interesting as possible. We will be having discussions concerning current trends in Economics today and popular opinions. The more I hear you add to the class, the better your participation grade will be. If you have something interesting to add, let us know about it.
