High Beginner/low intermediate
High Beginner/low intermediate
At this level we continue to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Reading gradually becomes more difficult, vocabulary gaps are filled in, students must explain more complex concepts. Academic vocabulary is introduced in the areas of psychology, biology, relationships, ecology, disaster control, and literature. Study skills are used to prepare the student for the academic classroom. Short projects are presented and writing is developed for specific purposes. Other readings may also be used.
Textbook: High Point A, one workbook
Pace: One unit every two weeks, including a reading, vocabulary, study skills, grammar, a composition, and a test.
The objective for this course is for the student to be comfortable with everyday nonacademic English--listening, speaking, and simple reading and writing.
