Important Events in the Classroom
The following events affect our classroom. Please read the following information and mark it on your calendar. This section will be updated when it is appropriate.

| Reading: Each week the reading story, comprehension skill, and vocabulary words are listed in the parent letter that comes home on Monday. The spelling words, grammar focus and writing focus are also listed in this newsletter. |
Math:
Math: We use the Accelerated Math program on a daily basis as part of our math. We send the Accelerated Math sheets home for you to review with your child and see how your child is performing. It is important for your child to practice his or her math facts frequently. In the weekly newsletter, we list the focus of our math for each week. Please reinforce these skills at home.

Science/Social Studies
We alternate Social Studies and Science by unit. These areas are listed in the newsletter. |
Other Activities:
Accelerated Reader: Please encourage your child to reach his or her A.R. goal. Each student is encouraged to read a book each evening and be ready for a test in the morning. Each Second Grader has a goal of five A.R. points. It is so easy for the students to achieve this goal, if they will read each night. This goal is set to help students improve their reading comprehension and fluency skills. |
