I have taught here at Grovetown Middle for my entire teaching career. It started out with a position in 8th Grade Earth Science which lasted for four years. Afterwards, Earth Science was switched to the 6th Grade curriculum, and I was asked to switch grade levels. I was happy for the change. The upcoming school year ('09 - '10) will be my third year in 6th Grade and I am loving it! ***Math Trivia: How many years has Mrs. Brown been teaching??**
I have been married for 10 years to my husband, Teddy Brown (he actually graduated from Harlem High). Lakeside High is my Alma Mater I and graduated in 1994. Then, I attended Augusta State University and graduated with a Bacherlor's of Science in Education for Middle Grades in the year 2000. We have three beautiful children together: Jasmine - 15 years old, Jessica - 7 years old, and Jeremiah - 2 years old in August '09.
I love teaching science to students here at GTMS. I have also taught Writing (which I love), and a little Reading and Math through AEP classes. My Masters Degree was in Middle Grades Education: Science and Language Arts. That really opened up my love for Writing which I hope to teach one day. I am also pretty good in Math (which was part of my concentration for my Bachelor's). I feel blessed to have received the education that I have as an American. I also have a special love for having Special Needs children in my classes, as well as ESOL Learners.
My loves are Animals, Nature, and Water. I have always had pets!! My dad taught me a love of animals as a young child, especially dogs. I have had live-in cats also and rescued one from the wild (with the help of my husband). I had hamsters, birds, anything I was allowed to have depending on where my mom and I lived. (I have no brothers or sisters. I know, it's sad, isn't it?) My children have had fish, hamsters, dogs, cats, and hermit crabs. We currently have two dogs: Molly and Rocko, as well as many fish in our backyard water feature. I enjoy watching dogs give birth to a litter of puppies and helping her care for them. Molly is 13 1/2 years old and I was the owner of her mother years ago. Rocko is a Jack Russel Terrier (3 years old). Molly's part Cocker Spaniel, Black Lab and something else.
I love the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee and visit there often. I enjoy hiking and looking at rocks and the rapids/waterfalls. I also enjoy swimming. Ever since I was little I liked to swim, however now I have to wear ear plugs because I can't get water in my ears! River Rafting is fun. Aquariums, such as the one in Atlanta is a great place to visit - the Beluga Whales are my favorite. Flowers are a love of mine also. Growing things such as Day Lillies in my yard is enjoyable and satisfying to watch bloom. Plants are also nice and I wish I had room in my house to have them, but I'm afraid my two-year old son will get into them. I have several plants in the classroom, however. We attend New Hope Worship Center and enjoy participating in all the Children's Activites.
I hope you have enjoyed me sharing a little bit about myself!!! |
