Color Theory Color Matters Students reviewed all color families and how to mix colors. Students colored and mixed the colors using oil pastels in the appropriate spaces: primary, secondary, tertiary, neutral, tints and shades. |

Drawing and Painting with Watercolors John James Audubon Students observed and discussed the watercolor paintings of John James Audubon. Students observed the realism, spatial relationships and habitats in which Audubon placed the animals. The students then designed a realistic animal in a pleasing composition using shape, line and color. Students used a variety of mediums in order to add color to their artwork. |
 Inspired by Pablo Picasso's Cubism |
Mixed Media Collage Pablo Picasso Students discussed the style of art known as Cubism and Pablo Picasso. Students used to construction paper in different shapes in order to compose a pleasing composition. Different shading techniques were used with oil pastels in order to present the shadows. |
 Clay Shaker |
Ceramics Students made two pinch pots and joined them together using ceramic tools and water. Before joining the pinch pots, the students made several small spheres and wrapped them in paper towels and put them inside the pinch pots. The students attached the features represented on their shaker through the process known as “scoring.” The students were given the option to make their animal shaker in one of the following styles: realistic, fantasy or cartoon like. Students painted the clay shakers with acrylic paint. The sound that the shaker makes varies upon the size and number of small spheres that were put into the shaker while it was being made. |

 Plaster Figure |
Sculpture Students studied the artwork of plaster and sculptor artist, George Segal. Students made a stick person out of pipe cleaners and added mass and form to the pipe cleaners with aluminum foil. Students wrapped the aluminum foil with plaster strips. While making the figure, the students had to show the figure in movement. Students were also asked to depict the plaster person in the manner of a self portrait in the present or future. Students used acrylic paint and recycled items to add details to the plaster figure.
