 Color Wheel |
Color Theory Students learned to identify the primary colors: red, yellow and blue and the secondary colors: orange, purple and green. Students learned that the primary colors are not made from any other colors. Also, the students mixed the primary colors in order to make the secondary colors. Students painted the colors in the labeled ovals appropriately. |
 Birds |
Drawing and Painting Through teacher instruction and the use of the ELMO, students used a variety of shapes and lines to draw birds using a pencil. Next, students traced over their pencil lines with black oil pastels. Lastly, students painted their birds with a tempera paint wash. |
 Rainbow Fish |
Drawing and Painting Mixed Media The Rainbow Fish The teacher read the “The Rainbow Fish” by Marcus Pfister to the students. The students also watched The Rainbow Fish DVD. With the teachers help students drew a rainbow fish using a variety of lines, shapes and patterns. Students colored the fish with oil pastels, added glitter scales and painted the background a blue tempera wash. |
 Caterpillar Collage |
Collage Eric Carle The teacher read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle to the students. The students used the collage technique and overlapping shapes to make a caterpillar of their own. Students added details to the caterpillar using oil pastels. |
 Still Life |
Drawing Osias Beert Students discussed the master artwork, Still life of fruit in a Wan-li bowl, by Osias Beert. Next students practiced drawing the shapes and lines of an actual fruit bowl still life. Lastly, students put an appropriate background in their still life drawing and applied color in a variety of mediums. |
 Symmetrical Mask |
Masks African Masks Students compared African masks and discussed the patterns, lines and colors. Students added different elements of art to make both sides of the mask symmetrical. |
 Ocean |
Drawing and Painting Through teacher instruction and the use of the ELMO, students used a variety of shapes and lines to draw a variety of sea life in an underwater scene using a pencil. Next, students traced over their pencil lines with black oil pastels and colored some areas with crayons. Lastly, students painted the underwater scene with a blue tempera paint wash. |
 Sheep |
Drawing Through teacher instruction and the use of the ELMO, students used a variety of shapes and lines to draw a sheep using a pencil. Students drew and colored a background with crayons into their drawing. Students also drew a sheep onto a black piece of paper with a pencil then outlined the sheep with a white oil pastel. |
 Lion |
Drawing and Painting Through teacher instruction and the use of the ELMO, students used a variety of shapes and lines to draw a lion using a pencil. Next, students traced over their pencil lines with black oil pastels. Lastly, students painted their lion using a tempera paint wash. |
 Farm Animals |

 Rabbit |
Through teacher instruction and the use of the ELMO, students used a variety of shapes and lines to draw rabbits using a pencil. Students colored their rabbits with crayons. |
 Heart |
Drawing Square 1 Art Fundraiser Students practiced drawing two curved lines to form the edge of a heart in order to make a symmetrically balanced heart. Students drew lines radiating from the edge of the heart for radial balance. Students colored their hearts in a variety of mediums. |
