My name is Wanda Burton and my paraprofessional is Mary Ann Kupar. Together we will provide your little one with an educational, caring, and loving environment. During this year, your child will show growth cognitively, socially, emotionally, and physically. We look forward to working with your family.

In anticipation of questions that you may have, I have compiled the following pertinent information for your reference throughout the school year. Please use this as a supplement to the Student Handbook to help answer any questions that you may have. If all of your questions are not answered, please ask!

SUPPLIES:
Please see your copy of the supply list.

SCHOOL HOURS:
School hours are 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. The tardy bell rings at 8:30. The dismissal bell rings at 3:30. If your child is tardy for school, please come into the building with your child and sign his/her name on the tardy roster so that he/she may be counted present for that day. Thank you.

ABSENCES:
We encourage 100% attendance. Please make every effort to make sure that your child attends school daily. A written explanation of any absence is required within two days of your child's return to school. In order to be counted present for the day, students must be present through noon, or if leaving and returning must be in school at least 3˝ hours.

Previously announced tests, pop quizzes and assignments that will be counted as a part of your child’s grade for that nine weeks will be made up on the day or a few days after your child returns to school.

Please make sure you are familiar with the county's new attendance policy. See you handbook.

LUNCH /BREAKFAST
A child lunch costs $2.00. A jumbo lunch (doubled entree) costs an additional $1.50.
Additional milk costs $.50. You may purchase a meal ticket or pay for your child's lunch daily. A free and reduced lunch application is included in your open house packet. Do not return this form if you are not applying for free or reduced lunch. If you'd like to eat lunch with your child, the cost is $3.25.

Breakfast is served 8:00 - 8:30 a.m. A child's breakfast costs $1.00. An adult's breakfast costs $1.25.

SECURITY:
If you pick up your child during the school day, you must stop at the office and ask the office personnel to have your child come to the office prepared for dismissal. Please make sure you sign your child out. Also, if you come to the school during school hours, please notify office personnel that you are in the building. This helps the school keep a record of who is in and out of our school. This allows for general safety at our school.

Written permission must be given for your child to ride a different bus or ride with someone else after school.

Medication:
Written permission must be given to have medication dispensed at school.. Medicine (“over the counter’’ included) must be in its original container labeled with your child's name, name of medication, and directions for administering. Please send a means of dispensing the medication (spoon) if warranted. A permission to administer medication form is included in your Open House packet.

LABELING:
All items your child brings to school should be labeled with your child's name. This helps allow lost items to be returned to its proper owner.

SNACKS/TREATS:
Please send a small nutritious snack for your child daily. Suggested snacks are fruits, vegetables, pretzels, crackers and cheese, dry cereal etc.

In celebration of your child's birthday, you may send treats for the class. An advanced notice to the teacher is requested. this treat will be given to the students at lunch in the cafeteria. Please send treats that are easy to handle & distribute. Please bring everything that is needed to serve and eat any treat you may bring. Thank you for your cooperation.

Monies:
Please send all monies in a sealed envelope labeled with your child's name; the amount, its purpose, and your child's homeroom teacher's name. Put the envelope in your child's pencil pouch in his/her B.E.A.R. folder.

B.E.A.R. (Being Equipped And Responsible) Folder
This folder is very important in keeping our lines of communication open daily. Your child's graded class work; homework assignments; conduct card; teacher/parent notes; newsletters; PTO, office and county notices will be sent to you in this folder. Please put any correspondence to me or to anyone in the school in this folder also. Each section is labeled with a description of its purpose. This folder will be sent home daily and must be returned the following morning. We greatly appreciate your consisentency in helping to make sure the folder gets to and from school every school day. Please check your child's folder nightly.

PARENT READERS:
(Leaders in Literature)
“Leaders in Literature” is a school wide program where moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc. are encouraged to come into the classroom and read to the children. Please contact to schedule to read to the class. Please keep in mind that we are on a "tight" schedule; therefore we ask that you stay within a 15 minutes time frame. Please consider reading to your child’s class for his/her birthday.

The volunteer reader becomes our “Mystery Reader”. This means that not even your child will know when you are coming to read. It will be a pleasant surprise! Costumes are welcomed!

BOOK CLUBS:
We will send home fliers from book companies showing their book selections. We have been very pleased with the books offered, the prices, and the service. Bonus points are awarded to the teacher for each book purchased. In turn, I use these bonus points to purchase instructional materials and books for our classrooms. You are under no obligation to make a purchase. However, if you make a purchase, complete the order form and send a check (no cash) made out to the appropriate Book Club.

QUESTIONS AND /OR CONCERNS:
Please know that if at any time you have ideas, questions, concerns, and/or comments, you may contact us.
