At the beginning of the school year, each student was given a copy of my math contract to take home and have signed. Here is a copy for your reference.

Mrs. Cole’s 6th Grade Math Contract

Welcome to Mrs. Cole’s Math Class. I am so excited to have your child in my class this year and I look forward to all of the new things that we will be doing in Math. As you are probably aware, we have changed our math curriculum in the past year to be in line with the new Georgia Performance Standards. This new curriculum is more advanced and challenging for the students. There will be more real life problems and situations as opposed to rote memorization of facts. Please keep in mind that basic facts are important for the student to know, as these are necessary for problem solving.
As we begin this new and exciting year together your help will be needed to ensure your child’s success in the classroom. Please take a moment to look over my policies and views on mathematics with your child, sign the form below, and return to me on August 8, 2006.

1.Classroom Rules: Be Polite, Be Punctual, Be Prepared, and Be Productive. I ask that all students come to class with pencil, paper, notebook, and ready to work.

2.Homework: Homework will be given Monday-Thursday with few exceptions. I do not give homework on Fridays!!! Each assignment is worth 20 points for a total of 100 points per week.

3.Notebooks: Students are required to keep a neat and organized notebook. At the front of the notebook will be a table of contents. There will be a notebook quiz at the end of the nine weeks for a daily grade.

4.Test, Quizzes, and Projects: Tests will be given at the end of each unit. There are usually 2-3 tests in each 9-weeks. Quizzes are given on a weekly to bi-weekly basis and are part of the daily grade. At least one project will be assigned each 9-weeks and will be counted as a test grade.

5.Grading: The grades in the classroom will be:
Homework 10%
Daily Grades 40%
Tests 35%
9 Weeks Exam 15%

6.Afternoon math: I will be available Tues.-Thurs. afternoons for math tutoring until 3:10. The student must sign up on the calendar a day in advance in order to stay and arrangements must be made for a ride home.

If you have any questions or concerns anytime during the year please feel free to email me at leslie.cole@ccboe.net. I look forward to having a great year!!!
