Jungle Safari:
This unit examines the tropical rainforest community by investigating the plants and animals as well as the past and present indigenous peoples of this ecosystem. Students will explore the importance of this community to the well-being of the world and how it affects each of our lives.

Discover and name plants and animals of the rainforest
Identify the indigenous peoples of the rainforest
Label the parts of the rainforest
Explain how the rainforest affects and is affected by the environment
Locate the rainforests on a map of the world

The focus of this study is a simulation designed around producing a newspaper. Students will gather news as reporter, write new items, edit news stories, draw comics, and produce a newspaper.

Identify the inventor of the printing press and develop an understanding of how the first press worked
Work collaboratively with a team
Use critical thinking when making decisions
Analyze the various writing styles
Utilize the stages of the writing process
