Policies and Procedures:
Classroom procedures:
1. Be in your assigned seat at the sound of the tone.
2. Listen without interrupting when the teacher or a classmate is talking.
3. Do not write notes or work on other subjects during class.
4. No napping or slouching in chairs.
5. No gum, food or drinks are permitted in the classroom.
6. Bring all needed materials to class everyday including textbooks and workbooks.

Grading system: Grades are determined as follows:
Tests 30%
Quizzes/daily grades 40%
Homework 10%
Class participation 20%

Students are encouraged to keep a list of their grades. All grades will be returned promptly. Students and parents may check the grades on i-Parent.

Homework:
1. Homework will be assigned most days. Assignments will be on the board. It is your responsibility to write them down in your planner.
2. Homework and class work will be checked for completeness. No credit will be given for incomplete or late homework.
3. Homework is due at the beginning of class. Do not copy another classmate’s homework.
4. Students begin with 100 in the homework category each nine weeks. Homework is checked unannounced, and five points are deducted for incomplete or missing homework.

Participation:
Participation in class involves a number of variables, including but not limited to:
• Your use of Spanish in the classroom
• Your willingness to participate actively in all class activities
• Your cooperation during group and pair work
• Your respect and attitude toward the class and your peers
• Your daily preparation for each class.

This is how I grade participation:
Everyone will start with a 70. This is just for being in class prepared and following my instructions. It is completely up to you whether your grade stays at a 70 or goes up or down. If you are off task I will put a minus sign next to your name on the seating chart. For example if I call on you and you are not paying attention or your book is not opened you will receive a minus sign. If you are called on and you are on task and at least attempt to answer a question then you will receive a check mark. You have several opportunities to increase your grade. If you volunteer and ask or answer questions in the target language you will receive check marks.

Your participation grade is a cumulative grade and it will be updated approximately every two weeks.

Attendance and Make-up work:
1. If you have an excused absence, you must turn in make-up work within five school days for credit. It is your responsibility to determine what make-up work is necessary.
If you are absent the day before a test or quiz (that has been announced in advance) you must take the test or quiz the day you return. If your absence is unexcused, any missed assignments will receive a zero.

Discipline Policy:
When a rule has been broken the procedure is as follows:
The date, infraction and student’s signature will all be recorded by the student in the “Discipline Book”. This second time the student “signs the book” the parents will be notified and warned because the third time the student will serve lunch detention. If the problem persists the student will be referred to their administrator. This process starts over every nine weeks.

Tutorial:
I am available for help after school Tuesday afternoons or by appointment for those students who need extra help. Students should ask for extra help as soon as a problem is evident. Do not hesitate to ask.
