*!!Welcome to the 8th Grade!!*
Dear Parents,

I am very excited about the 2009-2010 school year!I know I have a great set of kids that are ready to work and see how much they are able to grow and learn in the 8th grade. This is a milestone year and it does require hard work and determination. However, I know that by working together it will be a successful and rewarding year for us all!

A LITTLE ABOUT ME:

I Love teaching at Grovetown Middle School.
I have lived in Augusta for over 15 years. I grew up with military parents and traveled frequently. In my spare time I like to spend quality time with my husband and children. I also love to read and watch any running episode of CSI.

I truly believe that a positive attitude is key, no matter what the challenge may be.

I encourage communication from my students, their parents, guardians and family members. We all want the same thing for your child and it is a smoother process when we support each other to help them accomplish their goals.

Please feel free to contact me with any concerns you may have. You can email me at any time,I will respond as soon as possible.

I can also be reached by phone at:
(706) 855-2514

*****PLEASE NOTE*****
I am available for after school tutoring on Monday afternoons from 2:45 to 3:30 as needed.

Textbook: Transitional Mathematics

Key Ideas and Objectives:
• To provide differentiated teaching methods that will appeal to the different styles of learning.
• Make math meaningful to students by application and problem solving
• The problems start very basic and build over time in its difficulty level. The amounts of mathematical problems presented are less, giving the student a longer period of time to work on them.
• Encouraging discussions about math can be a productive way to show various strategies on how to solve a math problem. Students have more courage verbalizing what they don’t understand.

Class participation: I do encourage you to make participation a habit. The saying practice makes perfect is not a cliché but a reality. Therefore, we will practice, practice, practice!

Homework: It is a tool used to reinforced skills studied in class. As a norm, you will have assignments daily, except on Fridays. Homework is to be done at home, unless time permits in class, and must be turned in as soon as you walk in the classroom. At times, there may be group projects assigned.

Daily work: Includes any notes, worksheets or oral activity done in class. In the event of an absence, pick a copy up of any make up work (assignment, handout or homework given in class) from it’s designated folder.

Quizzes: You may expect to have written announce and unannounced quizzes.
In order to make up a quiz, test, daily work and assignments, the student should bring a written excuse.
Missed work must be made up within five days after returning to school.

Testing: They will be announced with at least three days of anticipation. There will be a review the day prior to the test. Tests are a representative of what was taught and practiced in class. Therefore if you pay attention to the lessons, do your assignments and daily study/practice, testing will be a mean to demonstrate what you’ve learned.

Extra credits: May be earned in class, as applicable.

Grading: It will be based on accumulated points. The categories on the grading breakdown will be as follow:

Grading categories: Percentage:
Daily work/Homework 35%
Class participation 25%
Quizzes 15%
Tests 25%
Total 100%
