I am a native speaker and enjoy sharing my culture and language with everyone. I am teaching Spanish to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Since my course gives 7th and 8th graders the opportunity to gain “Spanish I” high school credit, it is essential that they do well. Note; A placement exam may be required in high school to determine whether or not they go to Spanish II (in 9th grade ). I understand that the students come from different schools where Spanish may or may not, have been part of the curriculum. Thus, I begin the semester with basics. I speak Spanish 90% of the time, but as the students will tell you…it’s not difficult! We do many activities that require them to move, speak, write, and most importantly listen. We are using the book NAVEGANDO 1. Along with their workbook and notebook, the students are required to have a (Spanish/ English) dictionary, and their note cards (for vocab.) for class. Since our classes are only 45 min. long, homework will be sent home almost every night. Please check the power point for more information on the SPANISH CLASS.
I will have the 6th graders for 9 weeks, and they will get their grades in their report cards. I will have the 7th and 8th graders all year. They will swap their block schedule every other day (every other week). They will only receive 2 grades after the semester, instead of 4 quarterly. This is due to the scheduling. The number of Spanish class time will even out to a “quarter” at the end of the semester. The value of grades are as followed;
