Classroom Rules & Procedures

We will spend the first days of school practicing classroom procedures. I believe in establishing routines early in the school year so that students know what to expect and what is expected of them each day. Following classroom routines and procedures is directly relative to and just as important as following classroom rules.

Rules:
1. Follow directions.
2. Be kind in what you do & say.
3. Respect others & their property.
4. Raise your hand to speak.

Morning Procedures:
1. Unpack everything from your bookbag.
2. Turn in any notes or money.
3. Put your daily folder in your mailbox.
4. Sharpen two pencils.
5. Use the restroom and get water if needed.
6. Quietly begin morning work.

Hallway Procedures:
1. Line up on the third block on the right side of the hall. Keep your hands beside you, so that you don't touch other students or the walls.
2. Walk quietly to each stopping point in the hall. Wait for instructions to move on.

Afternoon Procedures:
1. Check your mailbox for any notes or papers that need to go home.
2. Fill in your behavior log.
3. Check the board for homework assignments. Look to make sure that you have placed all homework assignments in your daily work folder.
3. Pack your bookbag and listen for car riders or your bus to be called.

Behavior Management:
Each student has a set of color coded cards. Students begin each day on a green card. For every misbehavior, a student turns one card. Consequences & a key are below.
Green: Great! Everyone starts each day on green.
Yellow: Warning
Red: Improvement Needed. Lose 10 minutes of recess.
Gray: Unsatisfactory. Lose all recess.
Black: Unacceptable. Lose two days of recess. Complete a behavior plan to be signed by the teacher and parent. Parents will be called if the behavior plan is not returned or if behavior does not improve.

Possible consequences if misbehavior continues or is severe: silent lunch, isolation in classroom, in-school suspension, referral to principal, out of school suspension.

Rewards:
Students will have the opportunity each day to earn a purple card. The purple cards are not awarded often and are earned by exhibiting behavior that is above and beyond the norm. If a student has moved a card and earns a purple, he/she may move back to the previous card. For example, if a student is on red and earns a purple, he may move his card back to yellow.

At the end of the nine weeks grading period, students who have pulled fewer than 10 cards will attend a BRAGGIN' DRAGONS celebration.

For every compliment the class receives as a team, a tally mark will be made on the board. Once we have earned ten tally marks, we will have a class celebration.

Students will also be able to earn prizes by accumulating money each day that they end on green or purple. This will help students learn to count money while being rewarded for a job well done!
