The Early Intervention Program is truly a beneficial component in the primary grades. The goal is to assist those kindergartens through second graders who need an extra boast to "jumpstart" their learning toward success in their respective grade levels.
Students are identified for screening based on teacher recommendations, checklists, and CRCT testing. Then, daily through small group instruction for reading and /or math, the students are provided with structured lessons to reinforce their deficit areas. The key to this instruction is repetition, hands-on manipulatives, multisensory tasking, and on-going informal/formal assessments.
Collaboration with the classroom teachers is essential. The EIP teachers are focused on the curriculum and standards that must be reinforced and along with the classroom teachers, positive gains are ultimately shown--sometimes after only a few months of small group instruction! Students "graduate" from the EIP classes when gains have been made and success in their respective clasrooms is assured.
