Welcome to Second Grade at Stevens Creek, Home of Mrs. G's Busy Bees! |
If the information you are looking for is not found, please ask! Our goal is to maintain close contact with parents throughout the year to keep you up to date on classroom activities and the progress of your child.
If at any time you have a question or concern please don't hesitate to contact us at school. If we are unavailable to take your call, leave your name and number and we will return your call as soon as possible.
We are excited about this year and the adventures we will share in second grade! We hope to provide your child with a rich, challenging, educational experience. We are anxious to get to know each of you as we work together. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to teach your child.
School Routine Our day will begin at 8:30 and end at 3:30. A note signed by you (granting permission) must be sent if you need to pick up your child early or if he/she is to go home with another parent or child. We cannot allow your child to ride another bus without written permission from you for the office and the bus driver.
Tardy students MUST be signed in at the main office by parents to maintain accurate attendance records. We thank you for your cooperation with this policy.
Absences Please note! The county-wide absentee policy has been changed this year! Please refer to the policy for more information. Students MUST turn in a written excuse within two days of an absence for the absence to be counted as EXCUSED. Please do your best to have your child come to school on time, all day, every day.
Work missed on excused absences may be made up. Generally, students should have the make-up work turned in within one week of the absence.
Previously announced tests will be made up on the day a child returns to school. (Example: Weekly spelling tests or a chapter test in math that was scheduled before the absence.)
Medications A Medication Form must be sent with any medication your child takes at school. All medications must be in original containers, with name of child, physician name, and name of pharmacy. This includes "over the counter" medications, such as aspirin, cough drops, etc.
Tuesday Folders Your child's daily work from the previous week will be sent home each Tuesday in a "TUESDAY FOLDER". These folders provide a quick method for parents and teacher to "keep in touch" and in tune with how your child is doing in class. Students should make the necessary corrections on papers in the TUESDAY FOLDER. It will help a great deal if you will go over these corrections with your child. (Any papers graded below 75% will require a parent signature.)
A general indication of your child's behavior will be noted on TUESDAY FOLDERS. A star will be added, as well, for students who have shown exceptionally good citizenship for the entire week!
Once papers have been reviewed, please sign the folder to let us know you have received it. The folder should then be returned with all papers in it, by Thursday morning. We will keep the packet of work to assist in evaluating your child for the 9-week marking period. After report cards have gone out at the end of the nine weeks, we will send work from that reporting period home for you to keep.
Textbook Covers ALL TEXTBOOKS MUST BE COVERED. Please do not use tape or contact paper directly on books. We hope to keep the textbooks in very good condition, and ask students to use them carefully.
