HEALTH OCCUPATION STUDENTS OF AMERICA

This is an awesome national student organization with a mission to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. This organization allows students to volunteer in their community as well as compete in medical events against students all across the nation! Come see Mrs. Gray in room 160 if you are interested.

(The picture on the left shows Mrs. Gray and Katelynn Boyd at HOSA National Competitions in Nashville Tennesee, June 2009. Katelynn made it all the way to Nationals competing in Pharmacology. Way to go Katelynn!!!)

~ Healthcare Science ~
Welcome parents and students to Healthcare Science Technology!

I am one of two Healthcare Science Technology Education teachers at LHS. I teach one Introduction to HSTE class and two clinical classes.
Intro. is a class for anyone, whether you are interested in a career in health care or will only be a health care consumer. This course will teach you information and skills that will give you a basic understanding of the world of health care. You will also obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
The clinical class is for 2nd and/or 3rd year students who have a definite interest in a healthcare career. These students may obtain their certified nursing assitant license and shadow many health careers they may be interested in. This course is a great stepping stone for students with healthcare career goals. Not only does it give the students great preparation, it looks great on their college applications.

A little about me - This is my second year at Lakeside High School. I have always enjoyed healthcare education and have a background in various healthcare fields including intensive care, post-op, emergency room, and legal nursing.
I am an RN with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia. I am currently working on a Masters of Arts in Teaching degree through the University of Georgia. I am married with 2 children and enjoy working with high school students.
If you are interested in more information about our program of study, feel free to contact me at catherine.gray@ccboe.net.
I am looking forward to a great year working with the future leaders of healthcare!
