Clocking In
Channing Hale Clocks in to Start the Day!
Transition Program / Class Syllabus
Goal: The student will work to master skills needed to transition from high school to a career / post high school program of his/her choice.

Materials Needed:
Clean, well pressed, appropriate clothes
3 ring binder (Teacher will provide)
Wonderful attitude / work ethic

Class Set Up:
Responsibility is the name of the game and you will be given every opportunity to display the highest level of it.

Each morning you will clock in using the time clock and your time card. This is an increasingly important skill. You will also clock out at the end of the day and be responsible for figuring daily, weekly, monthly, and semester hours worked.
Student boxes
Kyler Bennett Checks His Box After Clocking In.
It is also your responsibility to check your student box daily. All paper work will be transferred thru you box. Any items left in your box at the end of the day will result in a loss of points.

All homework is to be placed in the homework box before class begins. Homework will not be accepted once class begins.

After clocking in and checking his/her student box, each student must answer the "Question of the Day". This question will be displayed on the board. This question will vary in topic each and every day. The student will have approximately 5-10 minutes to work on the question and turn it in for a grade.

Students will also complete the checkbook assignment that is placed in their box each morning, while role is being taken.

Evaluations
Ms. Johnson Reviews Alana Neal's Evaluation
Grading:
· An evaluation will be completed at the end of each day of job training. The students will go over their evaluation with their teacher / paraprofessional / job coach at their site. Once the evaluation has been competed and discussed the teacher / paraprofessional / job coach and student will sign the evaluation.
· All daily points will be kept in Mr. Williams' grade book. Bonus points and point deductions will also be added/subtracted at the end of the week. Weekly point totals will be given on Mondays. We will also announce promotions and demotions at the beginning of each week. Each student's progress will be kept on the bulletin board. The student's last name will be placed under the corresponding level that he/she has earned.
· Each Evaluation sheet will be used for two days. At the end of the two days the evaluation sheet will be copied. The student will be given one copy to keep in his or her folder. The other copy will be placed in the locked file cabinet in the student's individual job training folder.
· Remember, Job Training is not just what you do at the job site, it is also your participation in class, outside assignments (current events, etc.), behavior, and much more. All of these factors determine your job training grade. Any extra points earned on your "Reward / Deduction" sheet boost your grade. Any points lost on the "Reward / Deduction" sheet lowers your overall grade.

An absence greatly affects your grade as well. Any unexcused absence is a zero for the day. You cannot make up a day on the job site. Excused absences will not count for you or against you. You will simply not earn any points for that particular day.
· Your total points for the semester will count as 50% of your job training grade.
· In class and outside assignments will count as 50% of your job training grade. These assignments include current events, homework, research, and any other outside assignment.
o Here is an example of the point system / grade scale in action: Johnny earns 875 total points for the semester. Johnny earned 35 extra points during the semester brining his total to 910 points. Johnny lost 12 points during the semester for behavior issues. Johnny's point total for the semester is now 898. The students could have earned a total of 1000 points during the semester. Johnny's point's grade is an 89.8 average, which is rounded to a 90. THIS COUNTS AS 50% OF HIS GRADE.
o Johnny also had 10 outside assignments his grades were: 90, 0, 100, 75, 60, 100, 100, 0, 75, 100. His average for his outside assignments is a 70. THIS COUNTS AS 50% OF HIS GRADE.
o Johnny's grade will be averaged; 90 + 90 + 70 + 70=320 / 4 = 80
o Johnny's grade on his report card for the semester is an 80.
o Bottom Line- Your points matter! Any time you lose points it not only affects your opportunity for promotions but it also affects your grade. Outside assignments also affect your grade. Job Training is much more than just going to the various job sites; job training is 1 – 4 period and our transportation time. Inappropriate behavior in school, on the bus, or at the job site affects your grade.
· At no time will a student's grade ever be in question! Student will have all of their grades and daily evaluations in their folder.

Level System:
There are 10 positions used with the level system. Each student will earn points towards promotion based on his/her daily work evaluations. There will be several opportunities to earn "Bonus" points throughout the semester.

Points will also be subtracted due to inappropriate behavior or poor work ethic / performance.

Promotions
The student body will determine the rewards for being promoted during the first week of the semester. Once decided, the rewards will be posted in the classroom.

Demotions
Any student that looses 25 points or more in any given week will be demoted one position on the level system. That student's points will also be adjusted to the lowest point total on that level. Furthermore, if the student earns enough points to be promoted back to the level, which they were demoted from, they will not receive the promotion reward for a second time.

Attendance:
Attendance is vital to this program and your success. If absenteeism is a problem, a student will be removed from the program. If a student is absent from school he/she will need to call the front office (556-5980) and report the absence (just like a real job.) The student should ask for a message to be placed in Mr. Williams' box. The school needs to let the businesses know as far in advance as possible if a student will not be present at the job site. Points will be deducted if the student does not notify the office of an absence.

It is the student's responsibility to check the make up box upon their return to school. An assignment log will be placed in the box listing the previous day's assignments. It is the student's responsibility to check the log and get the assignment from the teacher.

It is the teacher's digression to give the students from 1 – 5 days to make up the assignment. No make up work may be turned in after 5 days.
Job Placement:
The instructors will place students in the appropriate job setting for each rotation. Skill level requirement, number of students, and adaptability will all be considered when placing a student at a job site. It is the programs purpose for no student to have to repeat the same type of work twice in one year. For example, if a student has already been placed in a grocery store once during the year, every effort will be made for that student not to be placed in another grocery story.
