Expectations and Policies |
Government Welcome to Government! I am looking forward to a very productive and enjoyable year with you. In Government we focus on American civic responsibilities and how they reflect the lifestyles and viewpoints of American society. To develop a classroom in which all students have the opportunity to be successful, we must work together. Listed below are some important aspects of the class that will help you understand your rights and responsibilities as we try to answer the big question, from what roots did our government develop and how do we gain a better understanding of our responsibilities as citizens? Materials Needed: Please have a binder with loose-leaf paper,dividers, pencils or ink pens, and the appropriate textbook for the class period. Maintaining your textbook is a must.
Class Rules The following rules are designed to benefit you and make this class productive for everyone. 1. Respect the rights and property of others 2. Pay attention and participate in class. Bring your materials every day. 3. Do not interrupt class by sharpening your pencil without permission, throwing things across the room, getting out of your seat; etc. 4. Be on time. 5. Please remember that the bell does not dismiss you from class; I will dismiss you.
Misconduct in class will result in lunch detention or referral to administration. Misconduct includes, but is not limited to, the following: writing or passing notes, talking without permission, sleeping in class, using profanity, drinking and eating applying makeup, brushing or combing you hair, marking on desks, etc. Please show respect for yourself; your classmates and your teacher at all times by raising your hand to be recognized in class and not talking while others are talking. You are also responsible for reading and following all rules listed in your Code of Conduct.
Grading Policy You must maintain a 70 average to pass this course. Major test dates will be announced at least one week in advance. Anyone caught cheating on an assignment including a test, will receive a zero. If a student is absent on the day of a major test or quiz, he or she will have three days to make up the test or quiz. A zero will be recorded if the work is not made up within the three day time period. It is the students’ responsibility to obtain make up work and to set up an appointment to make up missed tests or quizzes. Late homework will not be accepted.
Grading points used in Civics Major Grades- tests, projects, free response questions 50 -100 pts Daily Grades -homework, class work, 25 pts. or less Quiz (reading and section) 10 – 20 pts. Notebook 10 pts.
