Math |
| We have one more day of ITBS testing. I have passed out to each student some information sheets that may prove quite helpful throughout the remainder of the year. These sheets explain the rules of mathematics that I will be using in this class and for which each student is accountable. I have asked everyone to keep them in their notebook for future reference. You may want to look and see what the information entails. In Unit 2 we will start working with square roots and learning all of the groups of numbers in the Real Number system. Students will be required to memorize the perfect squares from 1 through 15, 20 or 30, depending on our time constraints. We will also cover scientific notation in this unit. Students will be required to locate square roots on a number line, add, subtract, multiply, divide, simplify, and estimate square root numbers also. We will give a Benchmark test around October 9th that is county wide. It will be a good indicator if the students are learning the material covered by the Standards. Each student has been given a copy of the standards to keep and review. It lists the vocabulary they are responsible for on the second page. |
Georgia Studies |
| We have begun work in Unit 3. This unit covers only Chapter 4. We have already started defining terms, people and places. We will be taking notes from the power point shows and we even have a few movies that tell about early Georgia. We will try and mix it around so that no one gets writer's cramp. |

Success in the Math Classroom |
| Each student is responsible for a pencil, paper and textbook on a daily basis. Students should work problems along with me in class and not just be idle sightseers. Learning requires work on the person's part, which includes asking questions. I am always available for extra help during homeroom and after school. Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. Some students are still coming to class with incomplete assignments. This will be a good year to learn "how to" study math. |
