| Working hard to do our best! But we know that making mistakes helps us learn! |
Our Daily Schedule! "Our Class Pledge"
Each day I'll do my best, And I won't do any less. My work will always please me, And I won't accept a mess. I'll color very carefully, My writing will be neat. And I simply won't be happy 'Til my papers are complete. I'll always do my homework, And I'll try on evey test. And I won't forget my promise -- To do my very best!

Look how hard we are working! |
| Reading every day helps us become better readers! |
First graders spend a great deal of time practicing the skills being taught each day. During Guided Reading students are taught a variety of strategies that will improve comprehension and fluency while reading. They often work together in collaborative groups to sharpen those skills. Independent reading strategies are developed during Self-Selected Reading time. Students read books that are appropriate for their own reading abilities. |

| Making Words lets us "play" with letters and sounds to create words. |
What about Phonics? The students learn to use letters and sounds to build new words during our Working With Words time. During Writers' Workshop the students learn the concepts of sentence formation, grammar and mechanics through actual writing experiences and then are given time to utilize these skills writing about things that are important to them. |
