| Consonant Digraphs |
|
In our classroom we get on a "first name basis" with our phonics friends. These picture and name clues help the children learn to recognize these letter combinations while reading and writing. We practice these phonetic rules during our Working With Words block and in our everyday reading and writing. |

The students learn to look for the "chunks" in words and then to put it together. You may often see papers or take home books with different phonetic patterns highlighted. |

This is our method of sounding out. Students are taught to use these "chunks", along with individual letter sounds and other word patterns, to decode new words. |
