The primary goal of first grade is to develop lifelong readers. To become better readers first graders must READ, READ, READ! They must spend time each day reading material that is appropriate for their level of understanding. It can be books, magazines, letters or notes written to them, games, menus, etc.. They should see reading as a life skill versus a graded activity.
