$$Rules for Our Classroom $$
$$ I use a money system in my classroom that incorporates math in a fun and educational way. Each student in my class is given $20.00 and taught how to keep up with their balance. In the second nine weeks, a community bank officer visits the classroom and discusses the banking system. The banking system is taught because the student will operate “The Prosperity Bank” in the classroom. The Bank officer will provide checkbooks for each student. They will also be given an overview of how to write checks and keep their checkbooks balanced. This is a big task for 2nd graders but you will be surprised at how quickly they learn and enjoy this activity. The students that work in the bank receive pay.
Students may increase their amounts by:
Receiving 100 on weekly tests Receiving compliments from adults for conduct Helping other students accomplish classroom goals Helping to maintain the classroom equipment
They can also receive fines. These fines are part of the consequences to our class rules, which the children help form at the beginning of each year. If a rule is broken during the day, the child must pay his/her fine. A class store is set up for the children to make purchases with accumulated money. Children may wish to save their money for later to purchase a big ticket items. This project has been very successful.
I have had donations over the years from parents, staff members, and community members. If you would like to donate, please send any item that you feel your child would enjoy buying.
