Know that a map grid is a good way to locate an exact point quickly.
Know the grid is listed as letters and numbers (go right then up to the top on a grid for math---maps usually go the opposite listing letters first then numbers on the grid).
Know directions, n, s, e, w and which way you move on a map to be going in that direction. Ex.: I’d move east if I was moving toward the right side of the map.
Know how to use a map key to locate items on a map.
Know how to read a highway number on a road.
Know which way is latitude and which way is longitude: Horizontal is going from east to west and are latitudes, also called parallels. Zero degrees is the equator 90 degrees North is the North Pole 90 degrees south is the South Pole
Vertical is going from North to South. Zero degrees goes through Greenwich England and is the Prime Meridian. These are longitudes. 180 degrees East and West is the International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean.
