I graduated Cum Laude from Washington State University with a BA in Social Studies and I also have a degree in Criminal Justice. I am a lifetime member of the Criminal Justice Honor Society at Augusta State University.

I was a member of the Carpenters Local Union #283 in Augusta, Georgia for over 15 years. I was Construction Supervisor for Chicago Bridge and Iron Company (11 years) at Plant Alvin Vogtle near Waynesboro during construction of the two reactors at the Nuclear Electric Generating Plant.

This is a competency-based program requiring that the trainees show they can perform specific job related tasks safely to receive credit. As a trainee in this National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) program, the student becomes part of a national registry. If the student applies for a job with any participating contractor anywhere in the country, a transcript of his/her training will be available. This is the same curriculum many technical schools and colleges use.

Students are taught to use current trade materials, tools and equipment to produce high-quality products efficiently. The construction industry employs more people and contributes more to the nations economy than any other industry.

People will always need new homes, roads, airports, hospitals, schools, factories and office buildings. This means that there will always be a source of well paying jobs and career opportunities for construction trade professionals.

Opportunities are not limited to work on construction projects. Salespersons, building inspectors, insurance adjustors, estimators, management and hundreds of other jobs are related to the construction industry. Many students go on to become engineers and architects. These are high salary jobs.

The Student begins with the core curriculum: basic safety, introduction to construction math, introduction to hand tools, introduction to power tools, blueprints and rigging.

A student wishing to specialize in Carpentry, Masonry, Residential Wiring or plumbing may do so after completing the core curriculum. This course is also useful to the future homeowner as the homeowner can save money by making repairs and doing maintenance him/herself.

Our students compete in the SkillsUSA contests for a chance to win recognition and prizes.
