Class Rules

First, before we even get to the rules, let’s understand each other. Whether you like it or not, you are nearly an adult, and you will be treated and will be expected to act as if you are on your way to becoming an adult. You must also realize that you are a free-thinking, intelligent being who makes his or her own choices. That said, I want it to be clear that I do not punish; I merely observe actions and execute and/or recognize consequences. So, now to the rules of our classroom:

1. Respect. Respect your instructor, respect your classmates, respect yourself. Some examples:

A. Be punctual. I cannot emphasize this enough, both with attendance and the work you turn in. The work we will do will be waiting on you when you arrive, so begin immediately. Disregard the bells during our class period. I will begin the class, and I will end the class. Early is on time; on time is late.

B. Be prepared. Have all materials when you arrive, and arrive having completed all assignments and reading.

C. Be considerate and academic. We will discuss, we will argue, but WE WILL NOT FIGHT.

2. Honesty. Honesty is not the best policy; it is the ONLY policy. I will always work with those who honestly try and honestly fail, but I will treat dishonesty with a complete lack of mercy.

Class Policies and Procedures

1. Assignments are to be written in each student’s planner, and due dates will be posted on the class calendar.
2. Many days, a short writing assignment will be posted on the board or given orally from the instructor. Students will begin work on this assignment immediately upon entering the room.
3. Each student will sit in his or her assigned seat, according to the seating chart posted the first few days of class.
4. Any student who is given permission to leave the class for the bathroom must take with him or her a bathroom pass, and must make up for the class time missed.
5. Visitors will be treated with the utmost respect. Students will remain silent until the visitor can be helped and class can be resumed.
