March News from 4C
Wow! Another month has come to an end. The students are happy to have finished Science projects. Several students have shown excitement about the process and the many facts that they have learned. This information process will benefit students for many years to come.
Oue book study is coming to an end as well. Students have created great artwork, written excellent descriptive writings of the characters of the books, and assembled booklets and powerpoints. One group elected to write and present a play on a scene from the book of their choice. The Laura Ingalls Wilder books are exciting to read and reread. Ms. Wilder hooks the readers and holds their attention with descriptive language and humor. This project will be completed in class. Students are learning that working in a cooperative group can be challenging and rewarding.
The next two projects are a written book report and a research paper on a Revolutionary War hero. The rubrics for the book reports have been handed out for student reference. Students may use their Wilder books to write their book report or they may select another book. I believe that the process is more important than having students read another book.
Our teaching staff is in the middle of a program on discipline. Love and Logic is an excellent concept with emphasis on a student's self concept and firm limits. Many of the concepts covered are common sense approaches that many of us have used for years. Parents, as well as, teachers have used natural consequences, high expectations, and self-reflection to help students become more responsible. A student's self-concept improves when their ability and knowledge improves.
Please allow students to continue practicing on-line for the CRCT tests. Letters were sent home several weeks before Christmas giving the students the site address, their names, and passwords. The site address is http://georgiaos.org. If a student has forgotten or lost their pass numbers, let me know. I will send another reminder card or note. Practice helps to develop a comfort level, as well as, learning. It is the same site that has been used for practice for the past five years.
Don't forget to purchase tickets for the Dessert and a Play Night at Brookwood. It will be the last week in March. The fifth graders look forward to a large audience for their production.
