I want to take this opportunity to share a little about myself. My name is April Pond and this is my fourth year teaching first grade at River Ridge. I previously taught second grade at Sue Reynolds Elementary in Richmond County. My husband, Arvin, and I have 2 wonderful children. Mason, our son, is 10 and in the fifth grade. Our daughter, Claire, is 9 and in the fourth grade. Both children attend River Ridge Elementary. We are big Georgia Bulldog fans so from time to time you will hear your children talking about the Bulldogs. Sorry Tech fans! When we are not cheering on the Dawgs, we are busy with after school activities – gymnastics, football, baseball, and basketball. I am a Georgia native and graduated from Evans High School and Augusta State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I have received a Reading Endorsement Certificate from ASU and am pursuing my Masters Degree. I believe that first grade is a magical year. You will begin to see lots of changes over the course of the year - academically, socially, and maturely. At first, the new classroom, new routines, new schedules, new expectations and academic demands may cause some anxiety to both you and your child. This is expected and not unusual. All of these new skills are not expected to be learned overnight and all children develop at their own rate. Having said this, I want you to know that I am here to help you and your child adjust to the new demands and responsibilities. Mrs. Holodnak and I are thrilled to have your child in our class this year and we thank you for giving us this opportunity. Please contact us with your questions and concerns. |
