Art I The 2008-2009 students in Art 1 will be going back to basics! We will be building our "art vocabulary" by studying the A,B,C's of Art: Line, shape, and form, space, color, value and texture. These are the elements of Art, the visual building blocks that work like nouns and verbs in language...
Each of our art projects will utilize one or more of these elements. When we are well versed in the elements of art, we will put them all together to create more and more expressive works of art! |
Supplies needed for success in Art 1 Each Art 1 student will need the following supplies from the beginning of the 2008-2009 school year: 9"x12" spiral bound sketchbook with 50 pages (70 lb. paper is good). #2 wooden pencils and mechanical pencils erasers- pink pearl or kneaded. Optional of extra credit- a box of Kleenex tissues or a pack of paper plates or a box of waxed paper.
Please note: spiral bound sketchbooks stand up to the test of time better than gummed sketchbooks! Your student will use this all year for homework each week. |
| Projects and Artists |
This year in Art 1 we will be experimenting with many different kinds of art media. Drawing pencils and stumps, India Ink and quill pens, watercolor, tempera paint and palette knives, clay and pottery tools, linoleum and craving tools....these are just some of the many art materials we will explore! Art 1 will be studying the work of artists like: Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, Jackson Pollock, Robert Rauschenberg, Jacob Lawrence and more. Did you know that Jasper Johns was from the Augusta are?!? We will use the work of these artists to inspire our own art works. |
