We will revisit the standards related to multiplication and division regularly from now until the end of the year. For now, we will shift our focus to the standards covered in Unit 3: Angles and Weight Measurement.

We have finished Book the First and Book the Second in our novel and will continue to read The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo for the next three weeks. Students received a daily calendar which provides the pacing for our novel study. Students will also be keeping up with vocabulary cards, spelling words, and comprehension activities. Everything for this unit will be kept in their gallon baggies which must travel from school to home and back daily. Please assist your child by making sure he or she comes prepared with his or her materials daily. We are collecting contributions for the movie field trip on Friday, December 19. The cost is $11.50 and includes a ticket, popcorn, drink, and candy. For those of you interested in attending the movie, the theater is only allowing us to bring 1 chaperone per 10 students on the trip. They want to maintain the integrity of a standards-based learning activity and they feel this is best accomplished by limiting the number of non-student attendees.

We are beginning our unit on Verbs in English and will be working on writing thoughtful responses to literature.

The students are working diligently toward meeting our AR goals for the second term. We are engaged in a competition with the other classes on our team. 4C set an average book level goal for the class at 4.6 and are working to accumulate 500 combined points for the term. We are over halfway to our point goal! Continue to support and encourage their efforts for AR!

Finally, please help your child remain focused as the holidays approach. During this hectic time of year, it is easy for students to become distracted which can negatively affect their school performance. We need to work as a team to support their best efforts as the semester draws to a close.
