This year, 5th grade is self contained. In reading, we have a new series and exciting new stories to read. Your child will be immersed into a world of words. We will examine word structure, Latin roots, and suffixes, and prefixes. Each student, will learn comprehension and word attack strategies to enhance their reading ability.
Math: We will cover a variety of subjects, graphing, place value, algebra, geometry, word problems, and more.
Science: Science is always an exciting subject for 5th graders, as we have many labs to explore. We will begin our year studying the Scientific Method, then move onto cells and microorganisms. Later, we will delve into the world of genetics and the classification of living things. Finally, we will examine the Earth and its formations.
Social Studies: We will cover from the Civil War up to the Cold War.
Language Arts: Writing is the main focus in Language Arts. We will write narrative, persuasive, creative, and informational essays. At the end of the year, the class will explore the world of poetry.
Our Mission: Our mission here at Bel Air is to provide our student with meaningful instruction in a safe school environment. Since students have different styles of learning, I will vary my teaching and activities to meet each student's individual style.
