We are a satellite center of the Sand Hills Program of Richmond County, which is part of the Georgia Network of Educational Therapy (GNETS).
The Georgia Network of Educational Therapy, in conjunction with behavior disorders programs in Georgia, provides a comprehensive continuum of services to emotionally handicapped and autistic students in the state.
When emotional handicaps interfere with a student's educational functioning, appropriate intervention is education/treatment that focuses on meeting the emotional and behavioral needs of the child in the least restrictive environment. The more severe the emotional problem, the greater the need for a more restrictive environment and the more apt the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives will necessitate services within an intense therapeutic environment such as ours.
Each Sand Hills student at SIMS has an individualized academic program with an emphasis on social and interpersonal skills training as remediation for their social maladjustment and emotional disturbances.
