Classroom Management
Big Smile

Third grade is a very important year for the students to learn responsibility. They are learning to be responsible for their own actions and to accept the consequences associated with their behavior. We are all here to learn and any actions that interfere with learning will not be tolerated. The classroom rules are posted on the wall for everyone to see, and are reviewed with the students as needed.

The classroom rules are as follows

  1. Listen to and follow directions.
  2. Observe quiet times and raise hand to speak.
  3. Stay on task.
  4. Work cooperatively with others.
  5. Follow school rules at all times.

Students who fail to follow classroom rules will flip a colored card. Everyone starts off with a green card every day. If classroom rules are not followed, the following consequences will occur

  • Flip card to yellow - Warning (not recorded in grade book).
  • Flip card to blue - Student will sign-in to Sign-in Book and will take a break to reflect on behavior (one mark against conduct grade).
  • Flip card to red - Student will sign-in to Sign-in Book and will take a break to reflect on behavior. The parents are also notified and student will receive a Discipline Referral to office (another mark against conduct grade).

*If your child receives a mark against his/her conduct grade, you will receive a note from me that day. Please sign and return the slip the next day.

The whole class is rewarded for exemplary behavior with success chains. The students will receive links each day according to their behavior for the day. "Special" classes (P.E., music, art, guidance, media) can also give links to our class each visit. The students vote on the type of party they are working toward.

Individual students are recognized and rewarded for appropriate behavior as well. Students can earn individual links with their names on them to be added to the classroom success chain. Students also receive stickers, stamps, and rewards from the treat box for especially good behavior.
