What happens in third grade? |
|
Welcome to the Third Grade! This classroom is a learning zone. Each student is encouraged to produce quality work every day. Each student is expected to contribute to creating a positive learning environment for every member of the class. Parents and teachers can expect the same from their teacher. |

Reading Is Important Everything your child does in school involves reading. Students who read will probably have less problems with other subjects. Reading does improve with practice! Accelerated Reader is an excellent resource for motivating students to read. It also provides for the critical practice students need. However, points earned are not the only important scores. We are also concerned about the percentage correct. AR recommends an average score of 85%. Ask your students how they are progressing with their AR quarterly goal. Then encourage them to compete against themselves!

Upcoming Topics and Events Math practice is so much faster and more efficient if students know their facts. Third graders are expected to learn the addition and subtraction facts during the first month of school. This means they should be memorized. We begin the multiplication tables the end of October or the first of November. Help your children build their skills and confidence in math by learning all those facts. Use every opportunity to drill the ones that give them difficulty and don't waste time with the ones they already know. Short but consistent practice is the key!
