Farmers need soil to grow crops.

Sometimes farmers use strip cropping to save the soil by planting thick grass or clover between rows of other crops.

To keep the water from washing the soil away from the sides of hills, farmers use contour plowing.

Which would turn to soil the fastest?
Compost *****
Gravel
Bedrock
Plastic

Clay is sticky and holds water easily so it is a good material for making pots.

Loam is the best type of soil for growing plants.

Loam is the best type of soil for growing corn.

Farmers use compost by putting it in the soil to add minerals, and they use it for fertilizer.

Water is good for topsoil because it soaks into the soil, and the plants can use it.
Water is bad for topsoil because it can wash the soil away.

Minerals in soil go into the plants. The animals eat the plants. We eat plants and animals. That is how minerals from soil get into our bodies.
