Art 1
This is a hands one class that introduces art history, art criticism, aesthetic judgement and studio production,(an emphasis on production). This class is for the beginning art student who may not have any experience in the world of art.





THE 1ST 9 WEEKS
1. Why a portfolio?
2. Safety in the art room.
3. The language of Art - line, texture, color, space, value, shape, form, rhythym, movement, balance, proportion, variety, emphasis, unity
4. The work of art - subject, purpose, credit line
5. Art criticism - description, analysis, interpretation, judgement
6. Aesthetic judgement - imitationalism, formalism, emotionalism

THE 2ND 9 WEEKS
1. Elements of Art - line, texture, value, shape/form, space, color
2. Art traditions from around the world - early art, Asia/middle Eastern Art, Western Art, African Art, Native American Art
3. Computer Applications
4. Art History Research Project

3RD 9 WEEKS
1. Principles of Design - Rhythm, movement, balance, proportion, variety, emphasis and unity
2. Skills and production - using what is learned in many different types of productions of art

4TH 9 WEEKS
1. Continue in skil and production
2. Presenting your art
3. Careers in art
4. Community connections - exhibits, speakers, supply sourses
5. Art history reasearch presentation
6. Portfolio review, reflections, self-assessments, formal assessments
